The Powerhouse Car Museum is a must for car enthusiasts. The collection includes veteran, vintage and classic cars, motorbikes, stationary motors, tractors and fully restored Melbourne cable tram memorabilia.
Marvel at the Buicks, Dodge, Ford, Austin, Pontiac, Riley, Chev and Studebaker. Situated on the corner of Glenelg and Percy Streets, the museum has ample parking and is also a stop on the historic cable tram route.
Lady Julia Percy Island
Cruise out from Port Fairy to see the largest colony of Australian fur seals in the southern hemisphere. Ringed by cliffs, with a flat treeless top, the 329 acre island is owned by seals. See dolphins and fairy penguins, or in winter, whales can be seen on the way to the island. See the seals at sunset return to their burrows in hundreds.
Take the Cape Bridgewater trail south and take in striking views of what was once a volcanic island now joined to the mainland by calcified sand dunes. Look out from the viewing platform at the end of the trail on to a colony of Australian and New Zealand fur seals. Alternatively, you can take a cruise out to Cape Bridgewater and see the seals up close.
The Great South West Walk
Walk the whole circuit or just a part of one of Victoria’s premium trails; the Great South West Walk. You can also see most of the walk’s major attractions via shorter walks such as Cape Bridgewater and Discovery Bay.
Explore the beautiful limestone galleries of the Princess Margaret Rose Cave in Lower Glenelg National Park. Admire the stunning spring wildflowers blossoming along the magnificent Glenelg River. Discover the forests and wetlands of Mount Richmond National Park, and watch the fur seals, nankeen kestrels and peregrine falcons at Bridgewater Bay. Take to the water and canoe on the Glenelg, or relax in a friendly fishing town or swim at a surf beach.
